Master’s Double Degree Program between Zhejiang University of Technology and University of Electro-Communications

Outline and aims

University of Electro-Communications, abbreviated to UEC, and Zhejiang University of Technology, abbreviated to ZJUT, have established a master’s double degree program, abbreviated to DDP. Students who take part in this program will be awarded each master’s degree from both UEC and ZJUT after you complete the master courses in Department of Engineering Science of Graduate school of Informatics and Engineering of UEC and Graduate school of ZJUT.
This master’s DDP aims to cultivate talents who have international perspective and are going to take an active role on both global and domestic stages. UEC and ZJUT collaborate to provide an international research environment and give instructions to students.
For the students enrolled in master course of Department of Engineering Science of Graduate School of Informatics and Engineering of UEC, after studying the education subjects of graduate school in UEC, you can study aboard in ZJUT. Students will study education subjects and conduct master course’s research at ZJUT campus in China. While developing an international sense by studying the educational subjects in overseas universities, you will take a specialized professional education that combines two master’s programs. Besides, students will challenge advanced research topics in the international collaboration.
On the other hand, for the students enrolled in master course of Graduate School of ZJUT, after studying the education subjects of graduate school in ZJUT, you can study aboard in Graduate school of UEC. Students will study education subjects and conduct master course’s research at UEC Campus in Tokyo Japan.
Students who taking part in this master’s DDP will participate two master’s programs in both UEC and ZJUT for standard three-year period study. And you will be awarded each master’s degrees from both universities when you satisfy the requirements of graduation

What is the master’s double degree program?

You are 3rd year undergraduate students in Cluster III and will study professional program of department of Engineering Science division.
☑You want to go to graduate school (master course).
☑You want to study abroad university (It is in China in this program).
☑You also want to obtain a master’s degree from a Japanese university.

→There is an overseas study program where you can study abroad at the Graduate School of ZJUT in China while enrolled in the Graduate School of UEC in Japan. This master’s double degree program allows you to obtain two master’s degrees from UEC and ZJUT.

Procedure of participating the master’s double degree program.

・In UEC campus

As needed, participate in a brief introduction for the master’s DDP.

・Cluster III, 3rd year grade, around July

Participate ZJUT Students Short-term Training Program in UEC campus. You can communicate with the students from China. And there is an opportunity to meet with faculty members of ZJUT.

・Cluster III, 4th year grade, July

Take and pass the recommendation entrance examination of Department of Engineering Science, Graduate School of Informatics and engineering, UEC. You need to confirm that you want to take part in the master’s DDP in the recommendation entrance examination. And your supervisor must admit your aspiration of join the master’s DDP. Otherwise, you might have to choose another supervisor for taking part in the DDP.

・Cluster III, 4th year grade around July

Participate ZJUT Students Short-term Training Program in UEC campus. You can communicate with the students from China. And there is an opportunity to meet with faculty members of ZJUT. It is the same event as Cluster III, 3rd year grade, July

・Cluster III, 4th year grade, within 2 weeks during the summer vacation

Visit ZJUT, China, for a lab tour and select your academic supervisor when you would abroad at ZJUT. In the DDP, the master course’s research will be conducted mainly at ZJUT.

・Cluster III, 4th year grade, 2nd semester

Complete the Bachelor’s research and graduate UEC.

・Master course in Graduate School of UEC, the first semester of 1st year grade on UEC campus

Take lectures at UEC campus and acquire the required credits, mainly focusing on compulsory subjects.
Perform admission procedures via online application for overseas students of ZJUT.

・Master course in Graduate School of UEC, after Second semester of 1st year grade on ZJUT campus

Study abroad at ZJTS and acquire the required credits, mainly focusing on compulsory subjects. Start your master’s research project at host university.

・Master course in Graduate School of UEC, from 2nd year grade, summer on UEC campus

Presented at the intermediate presentation of the Master course at UEC.

・Master course in Graduate School of University of Electro-Communications, from 2nd year grade

Submit a master’s thesis to UEC and undergo a master’s thesis examination of UEC.
After publish your research papers in academic publication, undergo a master’s thesis examination of ZJUT.

〇If you want to acquire a doctoral degree, you can take an entrance examination for doctoral course at the final semester of master course of UEC, if you will be expected to obtain a master’s degree from the University of Electro-Communications.

For ZJUT students who want to take part in this double master’s degree program.(Chinese students who are enrolled in ZJUT)

What is the master’s double degree program?

You are 2nd year grade undergraduate students in College of Science.
☑ You have an interest in studying abroad, especially Japanese universities.
☑ You are thinking of going on to graduate school.

→ There is an overseas study program where you can study abroad at the Graduate School of UEC in Tokyo, Japan while enrolled in the Graduate School of ZJUT. This master’s DDP allows you to obtain two master’s degrees from UEC and ZJUT.

Schedule of participating the master’s double degree program.

・Undergraduate 2nd year grade, July

Participate in a short-term training program where you will stay at UEC for a week and visit laboratories in the field of science, engineering, laser physics, and so on.
If you have an interest in UEC, please think about studying abroad in UEC.
Laboratories in UEC that will be visited:
Katsurakawa Laboratory, Kishimoto Laboratory, Saito Laboratory, Sakai Laboratory, Shimizu Laboratory, Shoji Laboratory, Taki Laboratory, Nakagawa Laboratory, Matsubayashi Laboratory, Minoshima Laboratory, Miyamoto Laboratory, Morishita Laboratory, Yoneda Laboratory, etc.

・The following 2 programs can be selected.
1. Undergraduate, 3rd year grade April to 4th year grade March

UEC JUSST Program

Participate in a one-year exchange study program and study at UEC campus.
You can participate in research activities in the laboratory of Department of Engineering Science, UEC.

2. Undergraduate, the end of 3rd year grade, about two months in summer

Summer research program

Study in the laboratory of UEC and participate research activities.
Match with the academic supervisor of UEC when you would conduct master’s research in the DDP.

・Undergraduate, 4th year grade, January

Pass the entrance examination for the graduate school of ZJUT. At this time, you need to confirm that you want to take part in the master’s DDP Choose an academic supervisor when you would study at the UEC.

・Undergraduate, 4th year grade, 2nd semester

If you are not a JUSST international student in program 1, you will conduct a graduation research under the supervised by faculty on UEC. Research presentations can be presented at the intermediate presentation of Cluster III of UEC.

・By the time you graduate from ZJUT

Take and pass the special entrance examination for the master’s program of UEC.

・Master course in Graduate School of ZJUT, 1st semester, September ZJUT campus

Take lectures at ZJUT and acquire the required credits, mainly focusing on compulsory subjects.

・Master course in Graduate School of ZJUT, from 2nd semester on UEC campus

Study abroad at UEC and acquire the required credits, focusing on compulsory subjects. Start your master’s research at host university.

・Study abroad after 3rd semester at UEC campus

Presented at the intermediate presentation of the Master course of UEC.

・Study abroad after 4th semester on UEC campus

Submit a master’s thesis to UEC and undergo a master’s thesis examination of UEC.
After publishing research papers in academic publication, undergo a master’s thesis examination of ZJUT.

〇If you want to peruse a doctoral degree of UEC, you can take an entrance examination of doctoral course of UEC in the final semester of master course of UEC if when you are expected to be awarded master’s degree from UEC.
